National Meals on Wheels Day 2026: A Movement of Care

Every doorstep, someone shows up.

On Wednesday 26 August, we're celebrating the 14,000+ volunteers who make Meals on Wheels a movement of care across NSW.

#NMOWD2026

A movement of care is built one doorstep at a time

A meal delivered is also a wellbeing check. A knock on the door. A familiar face, on the same day, most weeks of the year.

Multiply that by 14,000 volunteers across 120+ independent local services, and it stops being a delivery. It becomes a movement, one that has been running across NSW since 1957.

Care is who we are

Care is one of the values Meals on Wheels was built on, alongside compassion, respect, teamwork and integrity.

It's also a very Australian instinct. Checking in on a neighbour. Looking out for someone who lives alone. Showing up because it's the right thing to do.

Volunteers carry that instinct into practice, but they're not the only carers in this story. Family members, friends and community carers do it every day too, often quietly and without recognition.

How will you show up?

Everyone can take part in National Meals on Wheels Day, whether you volunteer, work in aged care, or want to say thank you.

  • Say thank you to a volunteer you know
  • Nominate a volunteer story for recognition
  • Use the PowerPoint or Canva files to edit and post your own branded National Meals on Wheels Day post on your channel/profile
  • Share your local service's or Meals on Wheels NSW's post on National Meals on Wheels Day (Wednesday, 26 August 2026)
  • Share the media release through your local channels
  • Ask about volunteering in your community
  • Follow along and share using #NMOWD2026

However you show up, it's part of the movement.
